Dancing...on the edge of possibility
Almost nine years into my Portland tenure and I'm a happy camper. From wonderful friends to tasty microbrews to long bikerides and musical inspiration around every corner, I love this city.
In a nutshell... I'm a native Californian, adopted Northwesterner, and one-time Strasborgian. I love to catch people smiling when they don't expect anyone's watching. My bike is my only vehicle and long rides are a new-found love within the past few years, including a couple amazing multi-day bike tours through Mississippi/Louisiana and the gorgeous expansiveness of Eastern Oregon. I consider food just as much entertainment and hobby as vital necessity. On a Monday evening, you might catch me tapping out jigs and reels with hard-soled shoes to some fast-paced Irish tunes. When inspired, I attempt to play fiddle (and recently came into possession of an old-school mandolin, which is getting me pretty excited to try my hand at some bluegrass). Working for an awesome local nonprofit gives each day purpose and fuels my desire to build community through volunteerism and service. I ride the extrovert/introvert line, but one-on-one is where I find true connection. I feel lucky to have some amazing friends in this town and have slowly realized just how many roots I've put down here in my near-decade as a Portlander. Life loves include... when laughter is contagious, musical diversity (listening, playing, dancing, singing), volunteering, outdoor adventures, capturing life in pictures, cooking, potlucks, genuine smiles, books, lists, my friends and family, my cuddle-loving cat, paper-telephone, wine, microbrews, cheese, enthusiasm, quotes on walls, hugs, heighted conversations, lying eyes-closed by the side of any large quantity of water (preferably natural and alive with a tide), the mountains... I am curious, motivated, and seeking synchronicity. And you? I can't rightly say, since I haven't met you yet. But hopefully you're curious and smiling. And you love music (perhaps you play an instrument). Maybe you want to get out hiking, kayaking, or somewhere in nature. Books excite you. You understand why I have a mad radio-crush on Jad Abumrod. You have a thirst for life and discovery and learning new things. You want to share your passions, teach me something new... and vice versa. You'll let me cook you a meal or bake you something sweet. You're a good hugger. You're game to go out dancing (your choice what kind... I'm game for anything). You want to converse, explore, and laugh together. You're fun and friendly with a feisty edge. You're game to meet up? DeeperWhat is something that people are surprised to find out about you? that I tapdance... in the oldstyle irish sort of way. none of that high-kicking riverdance business... this is solitary, improvisational, low to the ground and a whole bundle of fun. If you could have a dinner party and invite any 4 people, dead or alive, who'd be coming? Einstein, Jad Abumrad (of radiolab), Mme Selvin (my high school french teacher), and your grandmother (i bet she'd have some interesting things to say...) Where are your local haunts? Dove Vivi, Palio, Hedge House, Bazi Brasserie, New Season's, which ever thai restaurant is closest, the Columbia River Gorge, my kitchen. How far will you travel to meet the right partner? where ever two wheels can take me? What movie does your life resemble most and why? there's this little whimsical girl inside of me that wishes my life could be the screenplay of Amelie. What is something you're looking forward to? springtime bike rides If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, it would be: middle eastern, perhaps. My mama raised me on it and a good labne and feta sandwich seasoned with za'tar and rolled up in lavash remains on the top of the comfort food charts. Beirut My favorite junk food is... reeses peanutbutter cups When stuck in gridlock I roll on by, infinitely happy to be on two-wheels One sport I will never get is chess-boxing Great sex calls for lots of creative energy If I found a million dollars on the side of the road, I would purchase a fiddle & a mandolin and three years worth of lessons, buy the house my parents rented for 20+ years so that my dad could rest easy, plan a food/musical trip around the world, and donate to some awesome nonprofits. My beverage of choice is (currently) Lagunitas IPA served with friends If I could have any super power, mine would involve invisibility, teleportation, and speedreading, all lumped into one Michael Jackson was damn catchy When I feel like shit, I get creative in the kitchen I wouldn't be who I am if I lost my curiosity I wouldn't sell my memory for a billion dollars.
